Location & Accessibility

The surrounding area offers a wide range of trendy hotspots including Bar The Tailor, Kaagman & Kortekaas, and various beloved coffee bars and lunch spots popular with both locals and tourists. Despite its central location, the neighborhood has many surprisingly peaceful and green spots, such as the courtyards of the Oude Kerk and the nearby Oosterpark, which is just a short bike ride away. Third Floor

Upon entering the apartment, a central hallway provides access to all rooms. At the front, you’ll find the spacious living room with large windows. An adjacent second room, separated by ensuite doors, can ideally serve as an additional generously sized bedroom. At the rear is the open kitchen, offering enough space for a cozy dining table. The kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner gas stove with extractor hood, dishwasher, microwave, and a fridge-freezer combination.

The master bedroom is also located at the quiet rear of the apartment and includes convenient built-in wardrobes. Centrally located is the bathroom, featuring a large bathtub, double sink with vanity, walk-in shower, and toilet. Next to the bathroom is a second toilet with a small sink. In the building’s basement, the apartment includes a practical storage room of approx. 24 m², which can legally be used as living space per the zoning plan.

Historical Background

Until 1989, the building was used by the municipality before it moved to the Waterlooplein and made way for hotel The Grand. The owners' association (VvE) “De Fluweelenburg” was subsequently established, named after the canal’s original name: Fluweelenburgwal, referring to the affluent residents of these historic buildings. The property retained a former office-like feel, with the upper floors once serving as archive space for the Dutch Resistance Museum. The VvE later installed soundproof flooring and modernized the elevator, creating space for a second bathroom in this apartment. A rooftop terrace was also realized between the roofs. The building is considered special by the Monuments Authority due to its wide and richly decorated attic façade and likely 17th-century rear façade. The marble hallway in Louis XIV style dates from 1735. As a national monument, alterations are restricted — for instance, the winch wheel in the bedroom, once used in the 18th century to hoist velvet and tobacco, had to be preserved.
