Berkeloord is a small residential area of villas between the centre and the beautiful countryside of the green and friendly town of Lochem. The well-maintained villa "Postel" (1924) was designed by the famous country house architect G.J. Postel. The design has resulted in a great living and family home that offers plenty of space and privacy, both indoors and outdoors. Features include a circular drive, a detached stone guest house annex office space (64 m2), and a triple carport with garage (54 m2). The spacious plot (3,545 m2) around "Villa Postel" has a park-like allure and a landscaped and sunny garden with varied mature trees, beech hedges and several terraces.
Covered classical entrance. Vestibule. Spacious lobby with original tiled floor, cloakroom and guest toilet. At the rear of the house a classic gentleman’s study with a stone mantelpiece and fireplace, fitted wardrobes and sliding door to conservatory annex closed veranda. From the spacious front room, you really enjoy the best views over Berkeloord. It has a sliding door to the sun- and south-facing outdoor terrace at the front. The cosy, garden-oriented kitchen, equipped with original display cabinets and an American pine floor, provides access to the pantry. The sizeable storage and wine cellar is accessible from the kitchen, as is the pantry with the rear entrance and several fitted wardrobes which also house the washing machine and dryer fittings.
Through a beautiful staircase you reach the landing that leads you to three attractive spacious bedrooms including the master bedroom with spacious balcony, separate spacious dressing room, adjoining children's room and a second and third bedroom with closets. Bathroom with bath, shower and double sink, and separate second toilet.
Second floor, accessible by staircase, has a spacious attic/annex hobby room and a fourth bedroom / guest room with closets.
Detached stone guesthouse annex office space (64 m²) has a pantry, toilet and a staircase to the spacious first floor, which is used as a guest room and has a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. In addition, Villa Postel has a triple carport with attached garage and a semi-open garden tool shed.
In G.J. Postels (1878-1945) first years as an independent architect, he designed buildings that were strongly influenced by the austere rationalism of architects such as H.P. Berlage and De Bazel. The modest and honest brick architecture of this period is characterized by simplicity. The distinctly rural character of Postel's houses in particular is reflected in the roof shapes borrowed from the farm building, the low side walls and the windows with skylights and shutters. The robust brick facades are enlivened here and there by simple decorative masonry details.
